Get the right retractable for your space
Not all retractable awning models fit all types of spaces. The one thing that determines which styles will work in your desired location is whether or not there is an overhang.
Retractables can come with or without a cassette, which is an aluminum hood that covers and protects the awning’s fabric and components when it’s closed. Eaves and overhangs make cassettes unnecessary as they naturally provide cover for the retracted awning. However, if you like the look of an aluminum cover, then you can certainly choose to have one.
Any location with an open expanse of wall space will require a half or full cassette on their retractable awning to protect the fabric when it’s retracted.
Recommended models for locations with an overhang
Bungalow owners, this could be for you. If the awning is installed directly beneath a soffit or any overhang, then it will stay protected without a hood or cassette cover.

Sunpitch
The defining feature of the Sunpitch is how it can be tilted to any angle. Lowering the pitch means you can still be shaded from the sun even when it’s lower in the sky, and it helps the fabric shed water more quickly in light rain.
The base model is perfect for installing under eaves and overhangs as it does not include an aluminum hood to cover the fabric when it’s retracted. However, a hood is available if the awning won’t be installed below an overhang.
